Yoga, Zumba and Active Chakras at Hillwood Meditation Centre
Physical activity which focusses on breathing, rhythm and/or choreography is a great way to calm the mind and develop concentration without sitting in meditation. Those who find traditional meditation difficult might prefer one of these more active options.
Yoga
Gentle Yoga with Ruth Murphy - Mondays 5:45-7:00pm, $25/$20/$15
In a friendly and welcoming setting, this is a meditative, slow-paced yoga class suited to a wide range of abilities. The session is led by Ruth Murphy whose recent work includes teaching yoga in the Healthy George Town program and at Yoga Loft in Launceston. The cheapest option is to book 10 sessions for $200 (or $150 concession). Alternatively you can book 5 sessions for $110 (or $85 concession) or try a single class for $25 ($20 concession). Active Chakras
Active Chakras with Steph - Saturdays 8:25-8:55am, $5
This is a type of meditation which involves movements that can be quite vigorous if you want them to be, but you can tone it down as much as you like. The half-hour session spends a few minutes focussing on each of five points along your mid-line: your tail-bone, belly, chest, throat and forehead. The aim is to hold your focus steady on that part of your body while doing repetitive movements and poses which add to the focus. It's a great way to give your whole body a meditative work-out and it's a good warm-up if you want to stay for the 9:00am meditation session.
