Community at the Hillwood Meditation Centre
Social Life at the Hillwood Meditation Centre
The Hillwood Road Meditation Skills Centre is a friendly place with comfortable furniture and it's easy to make yourself a cuppa. About thirty people have a long-standing habit of coming to the Centre every week for one reason or another. Newcomers are always welcome. Apart from the regulars, there are many people who come for just one or a few visits, including travellers who are staying at one of the Retreats. If you attend fifty Meditation Meetings, you will be awarded a souvenir mug and you are welcome to hang it on a hook in the kitchenette. Fifteen mugs have been issued since the Hillwood Meditation Centre opened and some of those people have attended hundreds of meetings. You will soon find that faces are familiar. Be warned that if you attend the Meditation Meetings or Ladies Group it's quite likely the group will sing you Happy Birthday when it's your turn!
For details of Meditation Meetings, Ladies Group, Not-Church and Hobby Meet, see the current program here.
Building your community or team
In setting up the Farmhouse Retreat, Steph was inspired by traditional Guide or church camp facilities where there are large central rooms for dining and activities, plus enough simple bedrooms for a large group of people. The Farmhouse Retreat accommodates up to 12 people depending on sleeping arrangements, and another 3-4 people can be accommodated at the Goldilocks Retreat just up the road. Bringing your group for a weekend or a few nights is a great way to build relationships. There is no pressure to participate in the activities of the Hillwood Meditation Centre during your retreat but you are most welcome to do so. Please check ahead if you are planning to bring a few people to any of the events on the program. For more information about the Farmhouse Retreat check here.
